Scomi Engineering's monorail technology to power Sao Paulo's Line 18

Mumbai, July 16 (IBNS): Scomi Engineering Bhd, the transport solutions arm of Malaysian public listed company Scomi Group Bhd, in Wednesday said it will function as the technology provider to Consorcio ABC Integrado , which was awarded the Sao Paulo Line 18 project.
The Companhia Do Metro in Sao Paulo, Brazil recently announced that the Public Private Partnership project for this line has been awarded to the Consortium for a concession period of 25 years.

“We are honoured that Scomi’s technology is once again recognised in Brazil after two previous wins in Manaus and the São Paulo Line 17. Despite the challenging business environment, our key strategy of continuous improvement on our rail technology is earning us a growing reputation among cities around the world and this announcement re-affirms our capabilities as one of the leading monorail solutions providers worldwide. This win is a validation of the monorail technology on a PPP modal globally as its cost competitiveness is very relevant to today's global market. We have ventured into a few tenders in Brazil and are now eyeing more PPP projects in India for the monorail,” said SEB Chief Executive Officer, Kanesan Veluppillai.

“Our team has been working closely with the winning Consortium and we are delighted that our hard work has paid off. While we are not part of the PPP Consortium which owns the Concession, we are gratified that the Companhia Do Metro in Sao Paulo has recognised Scomi as the technology provider to this project. We are also very pleased that this is our first project in Brazil where we will be involved in operations and maintenance support,” added Kanesan.

The Line 18 project spans 14.35 kilometres and will connect the municipalities of Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo and São Caetano do Sul to the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The length of the contract is for 25 years – four years for implementation and 21 years of operations and maintenance.
