Railway stocks skyrocket! RVNL, RailTel, IRFC surge as new fares implemented
Mumbai/IBNS: Railway-linked stocks surged on Friday in the backdrop of the Indian Railways’ revision of passenger fare structure, media reports said.
Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) led the gains, rising 13.21% to Rs 391.40 on the BSE, while RailTel Corporation of India (RailTel) rallied 8.11% to Rs 385.45.
Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) climbed 8.65% to Rs 131.95, and Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) jumped 3.79% to Rs 705.30.
The fare revision, formally notified by the Ministry of Railways, aims to balance passenger affordability with operational sustainability. Certain services, such as suburban and season tickets, are exempt from the hike.
The revised fare slabs take effect from December 26, 2025.
For Ordinary Non-AC (Non-Suburban) services, fares have been rationalised in a graded manner:
Second Class Ordinary: No increase for journeys up to 215 km; ₹5 for 216–750 km; ₹10 for 751–1250 km; ₹15 for 1251–1750 km; ₹20 for 1751–2250 km.
Sleeper Class and First Class Ordinary: Uniform increase of 1 paise per kilometre for non-suburban journeys.
Mail/Express trains will see a 2 paise per kilometre increase across Non-AC and AC classes, including Sleeper, First Class, AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, and AC First Class. For example, a 500 km journey in a non-AC Mail/Express coach will cost roughly ₹10 extra.
The fare revision covers major trains such as Tejas, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Garib Rath, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, and Ordinary non-suburban services (excluding AC MEMU/DEMU where applicable).
No changes have been made to reservation fees, superfast surcharges, or ancillary charges. GST applicability remains unchanged, and fares will continue to be rounded off according to existing norms.
The revised fares apply only to tickets booked on or after December 26, 2025; earlier bookings will not attract additional charges.
