New Delhi/IBNS: In a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his call for dialogue and diplomacy as the only way forward to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Following up on their meeting in Samarkand on the sidelines of theShanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit at Samarkand in Uzbekistan, the two leaders reviewed several aspects of the bilateral relationship, including energy cooperation, trade and investments, defence and security cooperation, and other key areas.

Prime Minister briefed President Putin on India’s ongoing Presidency of the G-20, highlighting its key priorities.

He also looked forward to both countries working together during India’s Chairship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

The leaders agreed to remain in regular touch with each other.

In his face-to-face talk with the Russian President on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, Modi had told Putin that “today’s era is not of war but peace”.

He had pressed the Russian President to adopt dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

During the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin had told PM Modi that Moscow will keep New Delhi informed about the developments in Ukraine.

"I know about your position on the conflict in Ukraine and also about your concerns. We want all of this to end as soon as possible. We will keep you abreast of what is happening there," Putin had said.

While India has not explicitly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it has sought an international probe into the Bucha massacre as well as aired its concerns over the nuclear threats issued by Russian leaders.
