OpenAI to challenge LinkedIn with AI-powered jobs platform, debut set for 2026

San Francisco: OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, is preparing to enter the professional networking and recruitment space with the launch of an AI-driven jobs platform.

Expected to debut in mid-2026, the OpenAI Jobs Platform is being developed as a direct rival to LinkedIn, aiming to connect employers with workers who hold verified AI skills.

AI-driven hiring system

Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, said the platform will leverage advanced AI systems to match job seekers with roles based on skills and employer needs.

Unlike conventional recruitment tools, the system is designed to prioritise compatibility, helping businesses find the right talent while ensuring individuals land roles suited to their expertise.

Importantly, the service will not just cater to large corporations.

OpenAI plans to extend its reach to small and medium enterprises as well as local governments, with the goal of democratising access to AI-trained professionals.

Integration with certifications

The recruitment service will be closely integrated with OpenAI Certifications, a credentialing framework that verifies different levels of AI literacy — from basic workplace use to advanced prompt engineering.

Training will be offered via OpenAI Academy, the company’s free online learning platform launched in 2024.

OpenAI has set a target to certify 10 million Americans by 2030, equipping the workforce with skills aligned to future market demands.

Partnerships and rollout

To ensure broad adoption, OpenAI is partnering with major companies including John Deere, Walmart, Boston Consulting Group and Accenture, along with job boards such as Indeed. It is also coordinating with state governments like Delaware’s to align its certification programmes with industry needs.

Pilot testing of the platform will begin in late 2025, alongside the rollout of certifications, ahead of the full mid-2026 launch.
