Modi urges Hollande to adopt common strategy to fight terror

Brisbane, Nov 15 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande agreed that global terrorism can be eradicated if the states adopt common strategy.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of two-day G20 summit that started in Australia's Brisbane from Saturday.

Modi spoke of global cooperation against terror and stressed on a common strategy between states.

PM said, "Success against global terror is within reach if states adopt common strategy," as tweeted by MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.

It may be mentioned that France was the first country to join the US-led coalition in air strikes on Islamic State insurgents in Iraq.

Hollande conveyed that France is keen to enhance economic cooperation and invited Modi to Paris next year.

"France express keenness to further strengthen economic ties," a tweet said.

Earlier in the day, Modi had addressed the G20 Retreat, where he stressed that reforms must be people-centric and people-driven.

He said reform is a continuous multi-stage process and it must be institutionalized.

"Globally, reforms are handicapped with perception of being govt programs, a burden on the people, this needs to change," Modi said at the Retreat hosted by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott at the Queensland Parliament House.

Modi added, "Reform is bound to face resistance..Reform has to be driven by the people....cannot be by stealth."
