Laid off due to AI, Indian techie lands new job in just 15 days—Here’s what worked
An Indian tech professional has gone viral after sharing the job-search strategy that helped him land a new role just 15 days after being laid off.
In a Reddit post titled, "Found another job after being laid off 15 days ago," the techie said he lost his job just two months after joining a multinational company (MNC), reportedly due to artificial intelligence (AI)-driven restructuring.
"So I joined one company (MNC) two months ago and they laid me off citing AI restructuring. I was hopeless and shattered because I recently started with home EMIs. I panicked and started applying aggressively, cold reaching recruiters on LinkedIn, but what worked for me was referrals. I called all my friends and asked them to refer me for particular job roles," he wrote.
Sharing more details about his job hunt, he said he secured interviews with five companies. While he was rejected by two, he received offers from three.
"Once I got the interviews, I was rejected by two out of five companies and got selected by three. Two were Pune-based startups, so I rejected them myself. Finally, I got an offer from an HCM-domain product-based company in Noida, famous for recent layoffs. I would say it's such a relief to know I won't be unemployed," he wrote.
The social media user also said his previous employer had given him time until July 31, but he would not receive any severance pay as he was still on probation.
Reflecting on his experience, he advised professionals to continue preparing for job uncertainties even after securing employment.
"What I would say is, never stop preparing in this market. Even if I get the offer, I won't stop DSA and system design grinding. The market is so brutal right now and will be bloodier in the future," he said.
Internet users were quick to react to his experience and job-search strategy.
"Once you experience a layoff and get a job in a short time or so, you are never going to be afraid of layoffs," one person commented.
