Mumbai, Sept 2 (IBNS): Jet Airways, India’s premier international airline, on Friday announced the launch of an innovative and first of its kind inflight entertainment (IFE) service in the Indian skies.

Using wireless streaming technology, Jet Airways guests can now stream a wide variety of video and audio content directly on their own devices such mobile phones, tablets and laptops, redefining the way entertainment has been experienced on board.

This initiative delivers the airline's commitment to offer enhanced full-service experience to its guests.

JetScreen, Jet Airways’ in-flight entertainment service will now be available on domestic flights.

Over 220 hours of video and audio content such as leading Hollywood and Indian movies, TV shorts, music from multiple genres, interactive games, as well as special children’s programmes can now be enjoyed by Jet Airways’ guests directly on their mobile phones, tablets and laptops.

The introduction of streaming is the first step in Jet Airways’ plan to eventually transform its inflight entertainment experience into a fully-fledged, broadband-enabled Wi Fi connectivity (subject to regulatory approvals), which will allow guests to enjoy a range of services such as internet surfing, e-mail, social media, connecting flight information, instant messaging, real time travel services and destination deals.

This is in line with the Government of India’s vision to provide enhanced connectivity to citizens and make India digitally empowered.

With an incredibly convenient, easy-to-operate, interactive user interface, JetScreen has been introduced on five Boeing 737 next-generation aircraft in the Jet Airways fleet that operate on key domestic and international routes. In the coming months, it will be rolled out in a phased manner on the entire Jet Airways Boeing 737 fleet.

Gaurang Shetty, Whole-time Director, Jet Airways, said: “Inflight entertainment is a key element of Jet Airways’ full-service experience. Our selection of the best entertainment content across genres is aimed at enriching the inflight experience of our guests. Streaming of content on personal devices has become extremely popular globally, and we are confident that this initiative, will appeal to all our guests especially the millennials who prefer to access content on the move.”
