India’s automobile exports jump 19% in FY25, cross 53 lakh units on robust global demand

The surge was fuelled by strong overseas demand for passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Passenger vehicle exports hit record high

Passenger vehicle shipments grew 15% to 7,70,364 units in FY25, compared to 6,72,105 units in the previous fiscal.

The segment posted its best-ever annual performance, driven by global demand for models manufactured in India.

SIAM noted that improved manufacturing standards have enabled some companies to begin exporting to developed markets.

Utility vehicles were the biggest contributors within the passenger vehicle category, with exports jumping 54% to 3,62,160 units from 2,34,720 units a year earlier.

Two-wheeler exports expand 21%

Two-wheeler exports saw a 21% increase, reaching 41,98,403 units in FY25, up from 34,58,416 units in FY24. The rise was attributed to new model launches and the opening of new international markets.

SIAM highlighted that economic stability in Africa and growing demand in Latin America also played a key role in supporting this growth.

Growth across commercial and three-wheeler segments

Commercial vehicle exports rose 23% to 80,986 units, compared to 65,818 units in the previous fiscal.

Three-wheeler shipments recorded a modest 2% growth, with 3.1 lakh units exported in FY25.

'Made in India' vehicles gaining global traction

SIAM stated that Indian-made vehicles are seeing increased acceptance in key export markets such as Africa and neighbouring countries.

"On the exports front, good recovery is seen across all segments, particularly passenger vehicles and two-wheelers reflecting improved global demand and India's growing competitiveness," said SIAM President Shailesh Chandra.
