Government Working Whole-heartedly for Welfare of SC, ST and OBC People: Rajen Gohain

Kolkata, Sept 9 (IBNS): The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) people as well as the people belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) should be given adequate Constitutional safeguards and the present Government is working for it whole-heartedly.

Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said this here today in the Central Annual Convention and General Body Meeting of the All India Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes Railway Employees Association.

He said, as a foundation is needed for building a house, likewise, Dr B R Ambedkar laid the foundation for our country in the form of Indian Constitution, following which the country is running smoothly today.

Gohain said, the number of railway employees has come down to 13 lakhs from 15 lakhs and amongst these; the number of SC & ST employees is merely 3 lakhs.

In such a situation, he said, the demands of such employees should be rightfully placed before the Government and he would make personal efforts for their welfare. To make our country richer socially, politically and economically, greater opportunities should be ensured for the upliftment of SC, ST and OBC people.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is working for it whole-heartedly, he reiterated.

Narendra Modi is trying its best to achieve consensus on reservation issue as well as on prevention of atrocities on people belonging to SC, ST and OBC by bringing legislation.

He even pointed out Prime Minister’s regards for B R Ambedkar, as wherever he went outside India, whether it’s for deliberating at G -20 Summit or Joint Session of US Congress, he never forgot to mention about his works on achieving social indiscrimination, supporting the rights of women as well as labour.
The convention was attended by the railway employees belonging to SC, ST & OBC of all the zonal railways.
