CG Belgium inaugurates world’s first fully integrated 400kV mobile substation

Mumbai, Nov 21 (IBNS): Avantha Group Company CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited through its wholly-owned step down subsidiary CG Holdings Belgium NV (‘CG Belgium’) based at Mechelen, Belgium inaugurated world’s first mobile substation operating at a voltage level of 400kV.

With this world record, CG in Belgium further confirms its position as world’s leading pioneer in the delivery of “plug & play” mobile substations. CG Belgium was awarded the contract by the utility Saudi Electricity Company / National Grid SA, following an extensive collaborative engineering study.

CG has utilized its 35 years of rich experience in compact & mobile substations. Each substation consists of 7 large trailers, carrying the 3 single phase Power Transformers, 400kV and 132kV Breakers, SCADA & telecommunication equipment and connection tools & gantries.

With an ever-increasing level of power transmission challenges, an unbalance within the transmission grids, mobile transmission assets contribute to an increased reliability of the main High Voltage Transmission Grid. The concept of plug & play modular and mobile assets ensures grid connections and stability in all the circumstances. These mobile substations allow fast and reliable deployment for temporary as well as standby emergency electrical power transmission and also in new and fast track projects. In certain circumstances, the mobile substation is used as a permanent transmission solution in remote and challenging areas. Mobile substations are designed to be robust products that can operate to an optimum and stable level at various locations and voltages and therefore allow flexible integration within a smart electrical transmission system.

Commenting on this achievement, Avantha Group Company, CG’s CEO and Managing Director, K. N. Neelkant said: “Successful completion of the mobile substation not only reinforces the relationship between CG and Saudi Electricity Company / National Grid SA but also affirms CG’s commitment towards quality offering within record breaking delivery time. This further strengthens CG’s pioneer positioning in the dynamic market for substations worldwide.

Koen Van Peteghem, General Manager of the Systems Division at CG Belgium commented: “The continued effort of CG Belgium to invest into the technology of Mobile High Voltage Substations, backed with a wide experience and understanding of transmission needs and environments has paid off. The new contract for 400kV mobile substations is the largest contract ever awarded to CG in mobile substations and it marks a milestone in the history of CG. We are proud to be chosen by our customer Saudi Electricity Company / National Grid SA and thank them for their confidence in CG for supplying these strategic assets in their transmission system”.
