Kolkata, Apr 30 (IBNS): The West Bengal Chapter of Association of Microfinance Institutions (AMFI) on Wednesday awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ajit Maity, Chairman, Village Financial Services (VFS) Pvt Ltd, for his contribution to the micro finance sector in Eastern India.

The award has been conferred to Ajit Maity for his immense contribution towards establishing micro finance industry in the eastern India.

AMFI noted that his efforts had set an example and inspired many others to reach out unbanked poor people that led to the success of MFIs in the eastern part of the country.

Maity said, "We have seen many ups and downs due to adverse market condition but it’s been proven that micro finance model is trusted and recognized everywhere. Once the MFI bill comes into place it would provide a better regulatory environment for a robust growth."

He added, "We should take the pledge to strengthen this microfinance industry to reach out to more and more poor women to ensure a better life for them,” commented Sri Ajit Maity on the occasion. “I thank AMFI-WB for this honour."
