America First and Make in India are not incompatible: US Ambassador to India Juster
Kolkata, Feb 8 (IBNS): US Ambassador to India Kenneth I. Juster on Wednesday said America First and Make in India, the trade goals of the US and India respectively, are not incompatible.
Juster made the comment at an interactive session hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Region and the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the city.
Juster, in his 20-minute long speech, highlighted the importance of trade relations between the US and India and the possible prospects in the future.
Though US President Donald Trump vehemently proposes "America First" approach, Juster explored the better side of it along with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Make in India".
He said: "...investing in each other's markets will be mutually beneficial-it will increase our economic interactions and volume of trade, lead to collaboration on emerging technologies, and create jobs in both countries."
"India should now seize the strategic opportunity-through trade and investment-to become a major hub for U.S. business in the Indo-Pacific region" Juster added.
Juster also pitched in the economic reforms started by PM Modi. He said the reforms should accelerate.
"This will further promote growth and development. Continued reforms and trade liberalisation will also enable Indian products to more readily become part of the global supply chain, thereby accelerating job creation" the US Ambassador added.
Juster has also thrown light on women entrepreneurship and innovation which he feels to be a major step in trade.
"America is a leader in entrepreneurship and innovation, already has extensive linkages with India in the technology sector. Opening India's market will spur our collaboration on many emerging technologies that will drive and protect our economies, including those related to advanced manufacturing and cyber security" he said.
Recently, US President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump visited India to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit which was held in Hyderabad.
Juster also feels the US technology can certainly help India address its food security and agricultural concerns.
"U.S. environmental technology can play a key role in helping India address air pollution, energy efficiency and other challenges" he said.
He has highlighted the roles of travel, tourism and education in developing the trade relations between India and the US.
