Amazon layoffs spark chaos: Reddit post about terrified employee breaks the internet

| @indiablooms | Nov 01, 2025, at 04:45 pm

Amazon has announced it is planning to cut 14,000 corporate jobs globally, making employees of the e-commerce giant anxious about their future.

A Reddit user recently shared the emotions a friend, who works for the firm, is going through.

The user wrote on the platform: "One of my closest friends works at Amazon. Exceptionally talented guy....the kind of person who solves technical problems others can’t even phrase properly. But ever since the news of layoffs started spreading internally, he’s been living in constant panic."

"He literally jumps at every phone notification. His heart starts racing every time his phone buzzes, thinking it might be that email. The "you’ve been impacted" one," the Reddit user wrote.

"He barely sleeps..maybe 2 or 3 hours a night. He told me people who got laid off earlier received their emails after midnight or early morning, so now he stays awake in constant fear of that notification. Imagine being that scared of an email," the user said.

The post has now gone viral with netizens sharing their emotions in the comment section, with many of them suggesting their opinions on the situation.

"I have been through this. The panic attacks you get, unable to eat and waiting for message and the heart race this is all real. Tell him to be on a safer side, start searching for job. Ik its hard, cuz when i was in anxiety i focused on how to make my performance better, my communication better, and if they have decided to remove then they will. Better to start looking for some other gigs," one of them wrote.

"OP you described what life was like for me for a very long time. It's a beautiful write up. Thank you for putting it down in words. I was also good in my work but when my company started firing about 50% workforce without notice, I started panicking for a good long 9 months after which I quit. The anxiety of being fired was horrible and I realised there is actually no job security be it in Amazon or a Lala company," wrote another person in the comment section.
