New Delhi/IBNS: The Spices Board has established eight crop-specific spices parks across the country, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel said in reply to a parliamentary question on Friday that the objective of the spices park is to set up common processing and value addition facilities including cleaning, sorting, grading, grinding, oil extraction and packaging of spices for use by the local farmers, traders, exporters and other stakeholders.

The existing spices parks include Guna and Chhindwara in MP for coriander and garlic and chilli respectively, Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur for chillies, Rajasthan’s Jodhpur and Ramganjmandi for cumin and coriander respectively, Kerala’s Puttady covering cardamom and pepper, Raebareli in UP for mint and Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga covering chillies and turmeric.

In addition, plots have also been allotted in the Spices Parks at Guna, Jodhpur, Ramganjmandi, Guntur, Raebareli and Sivaganga to the exporters, traders and farmer producer organization for establishment of their own spices processing units, she said.

The spices parks are providing a large number of job opportunities, both direct and indirect, she added.
