Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Washington DC and meet US President Donald Trump to discuss all of the details regarding 'ending the killing and the war'.

The President made the remark hours after Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Alaska, an event which was closely observed by the world.

The meeting failed to reach a concrete agreement to end the ongoing Ukraine war, though both leaders concluded that the talks were productive.

In a statement, Zelenskyy wrote on X: "We had a long and substantive conversation with @POTUS. We started with one-on-one talks before inviting European leaders to join us. This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral conversation with President Trump. "

"Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace. President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion. It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation," he said.

Zelenskyy said: "We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this."

He said: "On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation."

Trump and Putin joined for a joint press briefing after meeting for more than two hours.

During the press briefing, Putin described the talks as a "constructive atmosphere of mutual respect."

"Today's agreement will be the starting point not only for the solution in Ukraine, but will also help us bring back business…between Russia and the U.S.," Putin was quoted as saying during the briefing by Fox News.

Trump described the meeting as 'extremely productive'.

Speaking on the peace deal, he was quoted as saying by Fox News: "There were many, many points that we agreed on, most of them, I would say. A couple of big ones that we haven't quite gotten there, but we've made some headway."
