A US teen died after participating in a social trend called dusting, media reports said.

The deceased person was identified as 19-year-old Renna O’Rourke.

The death of the teen has left her parents devastated, and now they are trying to warn others against the trend.

The girl's father, Aaron O’Rourke, told AZFamily that she always wanted to become famous.

“She always said, ‘I’m gonna be famous, Dad. Just you watch. I’m gonna be famous’ and unfortunately this is not under the most optimal of circumstances,” he said.

Her mother, Dana, told AZFamily, “There’s no ID required. It’s odourless. It’s everything kids look for. They can afford it, they can get it, and it doesn’t show in mom and dad’s drug test."

In a separate Facebook post, Aaron said: "Just saw my little Ren Bear for the last time. The last 6 days have been the hardest days of my life."

Doctor describes dusting as an extremely concerning trend

Dr Randy Weisman, who heads the ICU at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, told the news portal: "This is extremely concerning."

“When they inhale these chemicals in the gas, it will actually replace the oxygen within their lungs and within the rest of their body," the doctor said.

What is Dusting?

Dusting has emerged as a viral trend on social media where a person inhales computer dusting spray as a means to get high.

The trend is also known as “chroming” or “huffing".
