Washington/UNI: President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will be traveling to Maui on August 21 as a response to the deadliest wildfires in Hawaii, states White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday.

"The President and First Lady will travel to Maui on Monday, August 21 to meet with first responders, survivors, as well as federal, state, and local officials, in the wake of deadly wildfires on the island," the statement read.

The president and first lady will see firsthand the impacts of the wildfires and the devastating loss of life and land that has occurred on the island, as well as discuss the ongoing recovery efforts.

Biden remains committed to delivering all the assistance required by the islanders for the recovery, the statement added.

The death toll from the wildfires in Maui County reached 106 as of Tuesday night.
