New York, Apr 10 (Just Earth News/IBNS): Welcoming yesterday's executive meeting of the House of Representatives, the United Nations envoy for Libya on Saturday called on the House to convene in the Libyan port city of Tobruk over the coming days to vote on the national unity government.

In a statement, Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), welcomed the meeting that took place in Cairo yesterday between House of Representative President Agila Saleh and senior House officials, including First Vice President Emhamed Shoeib and Second Vice President Ihmeid Houma.

He also commended the House executives for showing leadership and determination at this critical juncture in the political process to unite ranks and fully assume its responsibilities towards the Libyan people.

“The House of Representatives remains central to the political process and to the implementation of the Libyan Political Agreement. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind about this,” stated  Kobler.

Effecting a peaceful and orderly transfer of executive authority will be a key step towards turning a new page in the transition process and ending institutional division at state level.

In this regard,  Kobler called on the House presidency as well as members of the House to take immediate steps to convene in Tobruk over the coming days to vote on the Government of National Accord.

“A positive endorsement by the House will be key to facilitating a peaceful and orderly transfer of executive authority,” he noted.
