Trump, Xi likely to meet at G20 summit in Japan: White House Advisor

Washington, May 12 (Sputnik) US President Donald Trump may meet his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, at G20 summit in Japan at the end of June, White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow said in an interview with Fox News, released on Sunday.

"Let me repeat the strong possibility that the two presidents will meet in Japan at the G20 meeting," Kudlow said on Fox News Sunday political program.

It came on the heels of the recent decision of Trump to increase tariffs on about $200 billion worth of Chinese imports from 10 percent to 25 percent. The president also ordered tariffs to be raised on all remaining US imports from China, which are valued at around $300 billion.

The trade dispute between the United States and China, the world’s two biggest economies, has been escalating for over a year now. Both nations repeatedly slapped billions of dollars’ worth of retaliatory tariffs on one another as rivalry between them soared.

The G20 summit in the Japanese city of Osaka is scheduled to take place from June 28-29.
