Trump accuses Iran of drone attack on Indian ships, calls it 'totally unacceptable'

| @indiablooms | Jun 12, 2026, at 09:31 pm

US President Donald Trump on Friday accused Iran of carrying out a drone attack on Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz and described the incident as "totally unacceptable."

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Their (Iran's) totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is totally unacceptable."

The claim comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region following attacks on commercial vessels near Oman.

Earlier this week, three ships carrying Indian crew members came under attack off the Omani coast.

In one of the incidents involving the Palau-flagged tanker MT Settebello, three Indian seafarers were killed.

India summons US diplomat again

India has reacted sharply to the attacks and to recent US military action in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs described the incidents as "deeply worrisome" and called for an immediate halt to attacks on commercial shipping.

On Friday, India summoned US Chargés d'Affaires Jason Meeks for the second time in 48 hours.

According to diplomatic sources, New Delhi told the American envoy that US military strikes on commercial vessels with Indian crew members were "lethal and deadly" and "unacceptable".

US and Iran exchange accusations

Trump also criticised Iran's description of a proposed US-Iran agreement aimed at de-escalating the conflict.

He said Tehran's account of the deal "bears no relation to the truth" and accused Iranian leaders of acting in bad faith.

"They better get their act together, and fast!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

US Vice President JD Vance sought to clarify reports about the negotiations, dismissing what he called "fake information" surrounding the agreement.

Vance said Iran would not receive direct cash payments and that any economic benefits would depend on Tehran meeting its obligations under the proposed deal.

CENTCOM acknowledged strike on tanker

The controversy has been further complicated by a statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM), which acknowledged targeting MT Settebello in the Gulf of Oman.

In a post on X, CENTCOM said US forces disabled the Palau-flagged tanker after it allegedly failed to comply with directions from American forces and was suspected of transporting Iranian oil in violation of US sanctions.

"A U.S. aircraft fired precision munitions into the ship's engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces," the statement said.

The incident has intensified scrutiny of maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor through which a significant share of the world's oil trade passes.
