Toronto: Pharmacy employee steals drugs worth more than $1 million

Toronto, Dec 20 (IBNS): An employee of Oshawa pharmacy near Toronto in Canada was faced with multiple charges after she stole $40,000 worth of prescription drugs, which had a street value of over $1 million, media reports said.

Adriana Digiorgio, a 35-year-old female, was arrested recently by officers from the Durham Regional Police(DRP)’s drug enforcement unit after concluding an investigation at the Lovell Drugs on Grandview Street in Oshawa.

"The pharmacy noticed the drugs were missing over a five-month period and contacted police," spokesman Ashling Murphy said Monday. "It was then turned over to the drug unit."

Durham Regional Police suspected it was an inside job when drugs began to vanish over the summer.

At the time of Digiorgio’s arrest, she was found with oxycontin and dilaudid in her possession with a street value of $13,000

Digiorgio has been charged with two counts of theft over $5,000 and 10 counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. She has been held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with more information has been asked by DRP to contact Det. Const. Nicholas Baldini of the drug enforcement unit at 1-888-679-1520 ext. 2204.

DRP also said that tipsters who provide anonymous information to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
