She should apologise: Australian PM Albanese asks Liberal Senator Price for her remarks against Indians

Australian PM Anthony Albanese has asked Liberal senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price should apologise for making remarks against the Indian community of the country.

The Australian PM told ABC Radio that she should apologise for the "hurt" she had caused Indian Australians.

"She should apologise for the hurt that has been caused, and her own colleagues are saying that. But even more importantly, leaders in the community are asking for that as well," Albanese said.

What did Price say?

Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, a senator in the centre-right Liberal Party, told ABC News recently that a "large numbers" of Indian people were being allowed to migrate to Australia by the Labour federal government because "the [Indian] community votes for Labour".

Her comment caused an anger among the Australian-Indian community memebrs.

AAS per Australian Department of Home Affairs website,  At the end of June 2023, 845,800 Indian-born people were living in Australia.

"This is more than twice the number (378,480) at 30 June 2013," reads the website.

Who is Jacinta Nampijinpa Price?

As per Liberal Party website, she is a former small business owner and a former Deputy Mayor of Alice Springs Town Council.

She has also served as a former Director of Indigenous Research at the Centre for Independent Studies and as a spokesperson and media contributor.
