Melania Trump's statue goes missing in Slovenia

Police are trying to hunt down those behind cutting off and then carrying away the larger-than-life statue of US First Lady Melania Trump in her hometown of Sevnica in Slovenia.

Police are currently investigating the incident.

The statue was unveiled in 2020 during Donald Trump's first tenure as President.

Now, the feet and the two-metre-tall tree stump of the statue are only present at the venue.

Local police say they are treating "Melania's" disappearance as "theft" and have launched an investigation, reported BBC.

Not The First Time

This is not the first time Melania Trump's statue met such a fate in the Slovenian town.

Her first statue was unveiled in July 2019 when it was carved single piece of wood by a chainsaw-wielding local artisan called Ales "Maxi" Zupevc.

According to reports, it was set on fire in 2020 on American Independence Day.

Luckily, US artist Brad Downey – who commissioned Maxi to create the wooden original – had already made a cast of the statue. It duly made a comeback in bronze, at the same site, reported BBC.

After unveiling the new statue, Downey had said it was designed as 'solid as possible'.

However, it was chopped and taken away by miscreants, which the artist did not imagine while creating it.

As per BBC report, Downey suspects that the statue's disappearance "has something to do with Trump getting re-elected".

People in  Sevnica, however, shared mixed feelings over the condition of the statue.

They condemned "any form of interference with private or public property", reported BBC.

They were quoted as saying by the news channel that "the image of the US First Lady was not something anyone was proud of".

Donald Trump returned to power after registering a victory in the American presidential polls last year.

His inauguration ceremony took place on January 20, marking the beginning of his second term.
