Ottawa, Sept 14 (IBNS): Canadian MP Maxime Bernier launched his own political outfit People's Party of Canada in Ottawa on Friday.

Bernier, a former Progressive Conservative (PC) leader, also announced the logo and website address of his newly launched party.

Speaking about the party's name, Bernier said as he has been quoted by CTV News, "Why this name? Because it is time that the government put Canadian people first when they make decisions and policies. It is time to put the power back into people's hands."

Bernier said his party will give values to smaller and less meddling government, championing individual freedoms and denouncement of corporate and lobby interests.

He said the existing political parties are not speaking for Canadians.

"The people's party will respect the taxpayers, will respect our constitution… and respect our traditions, our history, and what makes Canada a unique place in the world," Bernier has been quoted by the media.

Bernier's decision to form the new party came after he had a bitter terms with Progressive Conservative (PC) leader Andrew Scheer.

The People's Party chief had slammed Scheer by calling the latter as a "more moderate" version of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
