Kenya's Garissa University College attack: 70 students killed

Nairobi, Apr 2 (IBNS): At least 70 students were killed while 79 others were injured after al-Shabab Islamist militants attacked Garissa University College in northeast Kenya, reports said on Thursday.
Over 500 students have been rescued  from the Garissa University College campus, who were taken hostages.
 
Four terrorists were also killed after Kenyan troops launched an assault on the final building where the insurgents had holed up for over 12 hours.
 
An overnight curfew has been issued in parts of the country.
 
"Dusk to dawn curfew (6.30pm -6.30am)imposed by IG @JBoinnet in 4 counties namely:Garissa, Wajir, Mandera & Tana River," the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government in The Office of the President tweeted.
 
"Garissa University located in Garissa Town in the North Eastern part of Kenya was attacked by terrorists 0500hours on 2nd April 2015. This attack was preceded by an explosion at the University entrance before the attackers moved into a nearby hostel taking the occupants hostage," Kenya Red Cross said in a statement.
 
"The Kenya security personnel responded, engaging the attackers. As at 1130hours according to the Garissa County Executive for Health there were 65 casualties with 6 being in critical condition. Majority of the casualties have gunshot wounds and some with cuts were received while trying to escape," it said.
 
The Kenya Red Cross Response Team was on the ground soon after the attack working closely with other command structures within the Government. 
 
KRCS Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has deployed ambulances and paramedics at the scene.
