Kenya: Road mishap kills 36 people

Nairobi, Dec 31 (IBNS): At least 36 people died after the bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a trailer in Kenya's  Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Sunday, media reports said.

According to reports, the mishap left 30 people killed onspot while six others died later on while undergoing treatment at hospital.

The passengers were traveling in the bus towards Nairobi city from the border town of Busia, reports said.


Secretary General Kenya Red Cross Abbas Gullet tweeted: "Condolences to families that have lost loved ones in today's unfortunate road accident at Migaa, along Nakuru-Eldoret highway. Thank you @Ems_Kenya, Kenya #RedCross staff and volunteers for your response.."

The RedCross Ambulance had earlier posted: "Our ambulance teams responded to the scene and evacuated 18 casualties to Molo and Nakuru hospitals. The accident involved a lorry and a bus. More rescue efforts continue. More updates to follow."
