Jeff Sessions is an honest man, democrats involved in witch-hunt, says Trump

Washington, Mar 3 (IBNS): Amid controversy and resignation involving his US presidential campaign and alleged link with Russia, US President Donald Trump came out in support of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Hailing him as an honest man, the US President slammed the Democrats for 'overplaying their hand', following a defeat in the presidential polls.

The US President took to Twitter to vent against the issue.

"Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional,' Trump's tweet read.

"This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win. The Democrats are overplaying their hand. They lost the election, and now they have lost their grip on reality," he added.

"The real story is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total 'witch hunt'!" Trump said.

With Democrats calling for his head, Session earlier removed himself from the ongoing FBI probe into Russian influence in the US elections.

"I have decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for president of the United States," he said in a statement.

He also said that he did not lie at a recent hearing and clarified that he does not have a link with Russia.
