Japan: Princess Mako gives up monarchy in order to marry commoner

Tokyo, May 18 (IBNS): Princess Mako, the eldest granddaughter of Japanese ruler Emperor Akihito, is set to relinquish her royal status for the sake of love, reports said.

The 25-year-old is set to marry a commoner and as the imperial rule dictates, a royal family member will have to leave the family in order to marry one.

Princess Mako will tie the knot with law firm worker Kei Komuro, 25, who she met while studying together.

The Chrysanthemum Throne (Japanese Empire) presently has four heirs, Akihito's sons Crown Prince Naruhito and Prince Fumihito, Prince Hisahito (Fumihito's son) and the emperor's younger brother, Prince Masahito, a BBC report read.
