Two of the three people detained in Russia's Muslim-majority Dagestan Republic suspected of plotting to commit terrorist crimes are of Central Asian origin, a local law enforcement source told Sputnik on Monday.

On Sunday, Russia's National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) said the country's special forces had sealed off the suspected terrorists in several apartments in the cities of Makhachkala and Kaspiysk. A counterterrorist operation regime was introduced in the designated areas.

"One of the detainees is from Dagestan; two are from Central Asia," the source said.

The counterterrorist operation regime was lifted in the affected city areas at 12 p.m. on Sunday (09:00 GMT). No casualties among civilians or law enforcement officers were reported. Dagestan head Sergei Melikov said the terrorists had been identified due to increased security measures following the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall venue near Moscow.

The four suspected Crocus City Hall shooters—all citizens of Tajikistan—were arrested and charged with terrorism.
