Oslo, Dec 10 (IBNS): The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) has received the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize award on Sunday.

The award was received by Ican's executive director Beatrice Fihn.

Accepting the award, she warned the world that ending the option are either to end nuclear weapons or humanity.

"The story of nuclear weapons will have an ending, and it is up to us what that ending will be. Will it be the end of nuclear weapons, or will it be the end of us?One of these things will happen," she said.

She made the remark at a time when tensions over North Korea's weapons programme have risen in recent times.

Speaking further, she said: "In Iraq, in Iran, in Kashmir, in North Korea. Their existence propels others to join the nuclear race. They don't keep us safe, they cause conflict."

Urging the need of ending nuclear race, she said: "This is the way forward. There is only one way to prevent the use of nuclear weapons: prohibit and eliminate them."
