Gunman opens fire on Dallas immigration facility; leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

A gunman opened fire at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dallas on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring two others before being found dead himself, media reports said.

The incident unfolded around 6:40 a.m. in the 8100 block of North Stemmons Freeway.

According to the Dallas Police Department, the suspect fired multiple rounds at the government building from an adjacent structure, sending law enforcement officers scrambling to secure the area.

“When officers arrived, they discovered three people had been struck by gunfire. Two were rushed to a local hospital, and one victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities confirmed the suspect was deceased but did not immediately specify whether he died by police fire or other means.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Law enforcement sealed off the area in the hours following the shooting, with sirens, flashing lights, and police helicopters circling overhead.

Employees inside the facility were evacuated as heavily armed officers swept the surrounding buildings.

“This is still an active and ongoing investigation,” police emphasized, adding that more information would be shared during a media briefing later in the day.

The attack marks a rare but alarming act of violence against a federal facility in Texas, raising questions about security vulnerabilities and potential threats to government workers.
