Chinese news agency confirms 33 miners killed in coal mine explosion

New Delhi, Nov 2 (IBNS): In China, 33 miners were killed in an explosion in coal mine in central region of Chongqing, according to media reports on Wednesday.

According to Chinese news agency Xinhua,  33 people were confirmed dead in a colliery explosion in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality as the bodies of 15 missing miners were retrieved early Wednesday morning.

XInhuanet said that 35 workers were in the pit at the time of the accident just after 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Two escaped unharmed, leaving 33 trapped in the pit. The bodies of 18 miners had been recovered as of Tuesday afternoon.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way and is being supervised by the State Administration of Work Safety, the Chinese news agency said.
