China opposes North Korea's fifth nuclear test move

Beijing, Sept 9 (IBNS): As North Korea reportedly conducted fifth nuclear test, China on Friday opposed the move and said the country stands firm for denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

"China stands firm for denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, nuclear non-proliferation, as well as peace and stability of Northeast Asia. We strongly urge the DPRK to live up to its commitment of denuclearization, abide by relevant Security Council resolutions and refrain from any action that may deteriorate the situation," read a statement issued by China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying.

"We have seen twists and turns in the situation of the Korean Peninsula since the beginning of this year, which put peace and stability of the region in jeopardy and run counter to the shared aspiration of the international community," she said.

"It has been proved time and again that security concerns of parties on the Korean Peninsula must and can only be resolved in a way that serves all parties interests. Any unilateral action based on one's self-interest will lead to a dead end," she said.

"It will not help resolve one's security concerns but will only aggravate the tension, complicate the issue, and make it more difficult to achieve relevant goals," said Hua Chunying.

"The Chinese side strongly urges all parties to speak and act cautiously with a larger picture in mind, avoid provoking each other and make genuine efforts for the realization of denuclearization, peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula," she said.

"The Chinese side will stay committed to resolving issues concerning the Peninsula through dialogue and consultation under the framework of the Six-Party Talks," she said.

As North Korea made  fifth nuclear test, NATO on Friday called the incident as 'disturbing'.
