China: Earthquake kills 175

Kunming, Aug. 3 (IBNS) At least 175 people were killed and 181 others went missing as a major earthquake hit southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday, media reports said.

News agency Xinhua quoting China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported that it was 6.5-magnitude earthquake that shook Ludian County of Zhaotong City in southwest China's Yunnan Province at 4:30 p.m. Sunday (Beijing Time).

The epicenter was monitored at 27.1 degrees north latitude and 103.3 degrees east longitude with a depth of 12 kilometers, according to the CENC, said Xinhua.

Images showed many buildings reduced to rubble while many were cracked as people ran for life.

Many building in residential areas were hit.
