Toronto. Mar 14 (IBNS): The heavy winter storm in parts of southern Ontario and northeastern U.S. resulted in cancellation of over 500 flights in and out of Pearson airport, media reports said.

About 260 of the cancelled flights were scheduled to leave Toronto around noon, while more than 240 cancelled flights were  listed arrivals, thestar.com reports said.

According to Air Canada, ticketing counter at Terminal 1 airline had been notifying people in advance about delays and cancellations due to bad weather.

Travellers were also been asked to check their flight status on ‘Pearson issued a travel advisory’ on its website

A special weather advisory was issued for Toronto and the GTA Tuesday morning.

About 20 to 30 centimetres of snow fell on Monday night in Hamilton, Oakville and Burlington and these areas had been under a winter storm warning.

Niagara region is still under winter storm warning.

Messy travelling conditions are expected due to strong and gusty winds, reported the weather agency.
