Brazil: Prison riot claims lives of more than 50 inmates
Brasilia, Jan 2 (IBNS): More than 50 inmates were killed as a riot broke inside a prison in the Brazil's Amazon jungle city of Manaus, media reports said.
"The unrest, which started on Sunday, ended early on Monday, police said, when the inmates surrendered their weapons and freed unharmed the last of 12 guards they had taken hostage," BBC reported.
According to reports, the riot happened after a fight between rival drug gangs.
Several inmates reportedly escaped too.
