New York, Sept 11 (IBNS): Americans on Sunday observed the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the New York city that left nearly 3,000 people dead.

The deadly terror strike, which took place on Sept 11, 2001, actually reshaped the course of the US history.

The attacks widely believed to have been carried out by militant group Al-Qaeda under the leadership of Osama Bin Laden, had destroyed the then World Trade Centre as two planes crashed in the building.

Another plane hit and bit off parts of the Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Defense.

A fourth plane, heading towards Washington DC, crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

To remember the victims of the attack, Americans are holding solemn services on Sunday.

According to ABC News, the names of the dead will be read out in a remembrance service at Ground Zero in New York on the site of the rebuilt World Trade Centre.

President Barack Obama is also scheduled to address a ceremony at the Pentagon.

"This weekend, we honour their memory once more. We stand with the survivors who still bear the scars of that day," Obama was quoted as saying by media on Saturday.
