20 killed in Burkina Faso Hotel attack

Ouagadougou, Jan 16 (IBNS) Gunmen attacked a hotel in Burkina Faso's Ouagadougou that killed at least 20 people, media reports said.

Several masked men stormed the Splendid Hotel taking hostages after car bombs went off outside, eyewitnesses told BBC.

According to reports, several hostages have been freed from the hotel.

BBC quoting eyewitnesses  said gunfire between the men and security forces could be heard.

On its webiste, SITE Intelligence group, a US-based monitor group said: "Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed credit for the raid at the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, reporting its execution by the recently-joined al-Murabitoon Battalion."
