Posting a mammoth 331 for the loss of six wickets int he scoreboard, New Zealand bowlers bowled out the Asian giants at 233.
Brendon McCullum (65) and Kane Williamson (57) and Corey Anderson (75) made significant contributions to help New Zealand score more than 300 runs on the scorecard.
Anderson smashed eight boundaries and two sixes in his innings.
New Zealand had made strong start to their innings with both
McCullum and Martin Guptill (49) adding 111 runs in their first wicket partnership.
Suranga Lakmal and Jeevan Mendis took two wickets each for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan batsmen were all out for 233 runs with 3.5 overs to spare.
Lahiru Thirimanne remained the top scorer for the Asian side with 65 runs while Angelo Mathews added 46 runs.
Corey Anderson contributed with his ball as he picked up two wickets by giving away 18 runs.
