The Scindia School organizes 13th HH Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Cricket Tournament

New Delhi, Apr 14 (IBNS): The Scindia School, Gwalior, has held the 13th HH Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Cricket Tournament.

Teams from eight prominent schools all over India showcased their sporting prowess over five days, including The Scindia School (Gwalior), The Yadavindra Public School (Patiala), The Yadavindra Public School (Mohali), The Daly College (Indore), The Doon School (Dehradun), The Assam Valley School (Assam), The Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Haryana) and Modern School (Barakhamba Road, New Delhi). The trophy went to Delhi’s Modern School while The Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Haryana) was the runners up.

Samik Ghosh, Principal, The Scindia School, said: “Sports is something that is taken very seriously at The Scindia School. We balance our emphasis on academic studies by an equal emphasis on sports and outdoor activities. This cricket tournament is very special for us. The HH Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Cricket Tournament was instituted in 2002 in the loving memory of Late His Highness Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia who passed away in 2001. He was an eminent Old Boy, a politician of the highest stature and President of the Board of Governors of The Scindia School. I am happy to see that this tournament has brought out the best in students and enhanced their camaraderie and team spirit.”

Colonel Balwan Singh, Maha Vir Chakra awardee and Commanding Officer of 18th Grenadiers, one of the most decorated formations of the Indian army, was the Chief Guest at the cricket tournament. Congratulating the winners, he said: “I am really impressed by the sportsmanship displayed by all the teams, all of which were goal-oriented and played like good professionals. Sports activities teach students discipline, strategic thought, team spirit and the merits of hard work and determination. Seeing the zeal of these students on the cricket field, I am sure they are going to grow up to be model citizens and make the country proud.”

Highest Score: Modern School notched up the highest score of the tournament at 243 runs in 25 overs against The Doon School.

Best All-Rounder: Madhav Kaushik of Modern School was declared the Best All-Rounder. He played 5 matches, scored 176 runs and took 5 wickets.

Best Batsman: Saurabh Amor of The Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Haryana) was recognized as the Best Batsman. He played 5 matches and scored 184 runs.

Best Bowler: Mandeep of The Motilal Nehru School of Sports (Haryana) was judged the Best Bowler. He played 5 matches and took 12 wickets.

The match between The Scindia School (Gwalior) and The Yadavindra Public School (Mohali) was among the most closely contested at the league stages of the tournament. While The Yadavindra Public School played the first innings and scored 152 for 9 wickets in 25 overs, The Scindia School accomplished the target in 24.3 overs.

HH Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Cricket Tournament has carved a niche for itself as one of the best student cricket competitions in the country. Cricketers who later became famous for their prowess in the field have played in it over the years, including names like Unmukt Chand, Hemat Singh, Pari Goyal, Amitosh Singh, Karan Kaila, Aklavya Devedi, Milind, Kunal Lal, and many more.
