Serbia beat India in Davis Cup clash

Bangalore, Sept 15 (IBNS) India's Yuki Bhambri surrendered to Filip Karjinovic in the fifth and final clash of the Davis Cup tie as Serbia beat the hosts 3-2 to keep the side among the Davis Cup elite for 2015.

In a rain-hit match, the Serbian defeated young Bhambri  6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

India will again fight in the Asia/Oceania zone in the 2015 season.

The India Tennis stars, including Rohan Bopanna, Leander Paes and  Somdev Devvarman, fought courageously to level the clash 2-2 after Serbia had taken a 2-0 lead.

All hopes were resting on Yuki as he took on  Karjinovic who had taken a lead by  a set and the score level at 4-4  as rain kept disrupting the match.

A late night decision later saw the two players return to court at noon on Monday to settle the final scoreline of the crucial last match of the contest.

The Serbian took just 50 minutes to win the match on Monday.

Serbian captain Bogdan Obradovic was quoted as saying by daviscup.com: “I expected trouble after the first day, and it came, but I’m happy with this result. We prepared really well for this tie and now we can focus on the World Group next year.”
