School Rowing: Tirthapati Institution, Ballygunge Siksha Sadan emerge victorious

Among the girls, Ballygunge Siksha Sadan, represented by Dhriti Chowdhury and Trina Samanta, clinched the junior girls' double sculls title with an impressive victory over R.M.S. High School. Modern High School 'A', comprising Anandi Chowdhury, Gayatri Sriram, Aditi Srinivas and Srinija Chatterjee, won the senior girls' fours event comfortably.

In another girls' final, Ashok Hall Girls' Higher Secondary School's duo of Ritsika Das and Shriya Laha outclassed St Paul's School to secure the title without much difficulty.

Tirthapati Institution, which has established itself as a powerhouse in school rowing, secured its second gold medal of the championship by winning the junior boys' fours event. The winning crew consisted of Gourab Das, Roudra Kiran Das, Anubhab Karmakar and Arnab Chatterjee, who defeated Patha Bhavan 'A' in the final.

In the senior boys' fours event, South Point High School, represented by Sanskar Chandra, Md Samad, Kankhit Sarkar and Soursish Kundu, claimed the gold medal after finishing ahead of National High School.

Bharatiya Janata Party's West Bengal President and Rajya Sabha MP, Samik Bhattacharya, was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. He was joined by renowned swimmer and Arjuna Award recipient Bula Chowdhury in presenting trophies and prizes to the winners.

Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharya said sports clubs and organisations should ideally be managed by sportspersons and individuals with expertise in their respective disciplines. He also stated that the government's policy is not to interfere in the functioning of sports clubs and associations.

He further said the government is committed to supporting talented athletes who lack adequate resources and facilities to pursue excellence in sports.
