Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record falls as 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earns India call-up
Mumbai/IBNS: Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to become the youngest Indian cricketer to make an international debut after being selected in the national squad for the upcoming tours of England and Ireland.
Sooryavanshi, who is expected to make his debut at the age of 15, has been named in India's T20 squads for the two tours.
The previous record was held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at the age of 16.
Reward for a meteoric rise
Best known for his towering sixes and aggressive batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sooryavanshi has also been included in India's squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.
Hailing from Bihar, the young batting sensation shot to national prominence with his fearless strokeplay and record-breaking performances in age-group cricket.
His rapid rise through the ranks and impressive displays against quality opposition have established him as one of India's brightest emerging talents, drawing comparisons with some of the country's biggest cricketing stars.
IPL breakthrough at 13
Sooryavanshi had already created history by becoming the youngest player ever to be sold in the IPL auction at the age of 13.
He was signed by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 1.10 crore, underlining the immense faith in his potential.
Change in T20 leadership
In another significant development for Indian cricket, Shreyas Iyer has replaced Suryakumar Yadav as captain of India's T20 side.
