President inaugurates 6th edition of KKM Memorial Gold Cup

Raghunathganj, Aug 23 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 6th Edition of Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee Rural Football Tournament at Raghunathganj in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that football is a popular game in the country particularly in rural areas.

He said: "It is difficult to find a village without a football ground."

Referring to the KKM Rural Football Tournament name after his father freedom fighter Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee, Mukherjee said that 240 clubs of Murshidabad district and 16 clubs of adjoining Nalhati in Birbhum district have taken part in this tournament.

"It shows the popularity of football as a game," Mukherjee said.

The President witnessed the exhibition match between Eastern Railway Sport Club and Bhawanipur Club. He was introduced to the players of both the teams and he gave away prizes.
