Clarke dedicates WC win to Phil Hughes

Melbourne, Mar 29 (IBNS): As Australia won their fifth World Cup title, skipper Michael Clarke dedicated the title to deceased batsman Phillip Hughes who passed away last year.

After the match, Australian skipper Michael Clarke, who retired from ODI cricket after leading his side to a fifth World Cup title victory by beating New Zealand, said: "We played this World Cup with 16 players and tonight is dedicated to our little brother Phillip Hughes."

The world of cricket was shattered after the sad demise of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes on Nov 27 last year.

He was in coma for two days following a head injury sustained while playing in a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney against New South Wales. He was 25. Hughes was batting on 63 when he was struck in the head by a bouncer from Sean Abbott. Hughes tried to regain his composure but fell face first to the ground and was taken to the hospital.

Australia defeated New Zealand by seven wickets to clinch the World Cup here.
