Huelva (Spain)/UNI: Reigning world champion PV Sindhu reached BWF World Championships quarter-final after defeating Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in straight sets 21-14, 21-18, here on Thursday.

Sindhu will next face Tokyo Olympics Silver medallist Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipie in the semi-final.

The two-time Olympics medallist Sindhu suffered a loss against Tai Tzu in the semi-final of Tokyo Games.

In the first game, Sindhu showcased some beautiful drop shots with a snappy wrist. She was leading 4-7 but later Chochuwong leveled it up, 9-9.

But Sindhu wasn’t ready to give up so early and went on to breathe with a two-point cushion, 11-9.

After the break, the Indian shuttler extended her lead to 14-9, Chochuwong tried to reduce the deficit by taking a couple of points in between but Sindhu was too good for her, as she quickly took a huge 8 points lead.

Chochuwong reverted by taking a point; that wasn’t enough to save the game, as Sindhu took the opening set with 7 game points in 18 minutes, 21-14.

After the change of sides, Hyderabad-lad started well and took an early 3 points lead. However, Chochuwong bounced back and equalled the scoreline (3-3).

A tight contest continued in the second game with momentum kept swinging. Later, Sindhu showed her masterclass and went into mid-break with a healthy 11-6 lead.

After the mid-game break, Chochuwong tried to hold Sindhu by taking 2 quick points. But, the ace shuttler retaliated and took a 5-point advantage (15-10).

The Thai shuttler started to turn around the game by taking three straight points and posted some threat as she quickly reduced the gap (18-19).

But that wasn’t proved to be enough for the Thai shuttler, as Sindhu walked away by clinching the second game with 21-18.
