Mumbai, Jan 23 (IBNS): In a significant development in the Salman Khan hit and run case of 2002, Dr Shashikant Pawar, a key witness stated that actor Salman Khan was not under the influence of alcohol after the accident.

"Mr. Salman Khan was not under influence of alcohol, his gait was normal, he spoke coherently, his pupils were slightly dilated (which could be for many reasons), and his breath was smelling (notably, not of alcohol)”, according to a release by a Bollywood publicists' firm quoting the doctor's deposition in the court.

According to media reports, the doctor had back then said that “he [Salman Khan] was smelling of alcohol”.

As an witness he said now that according to the clinical examination, Salman Khan was not “under the influence of alcohol”.

Advocate Shrikant Shivade, appearing for Salman Khan, added that the actor’s blood samples were taken without his consent. To this, the doctor stated that verbal consent was sought before taking the blood samples, the release added.

One person had died and others were injured in the accident when a car of Salman Khan allegedly hit a pavement in Bandra on Sept 28, 2002.

The cross examination will continue on  Jan 27.
