Kolkata, Nov 13 (IBNS) The International Forum of New Cinema initiated by Cine Central, a film society that spearheaded the movement towards good cinema and was integrated into the Kolkata International Film Festival some years back, will inaugurate its screening programme at Kolkata’s Elite Theatre on Nov 15 at 6.00 pm by legendary actress Madhabi Mukherjee.

The Cine Central will celebrate its Golden Jubilee this year.

Quiet Bliss (2014) directed by Italian filmmaker Edoardo Winsphere will be the inaugural film. The film spans three generations of women whose lives have reached a new low forced by crippling recession and the relentless bureaucratic hurdles. But it is a film of hope triggered by the women’s love for the motherland. The film is shot in the picturesque Salento which happens to be the homeland of the director.

Cine Central President, Honorable Justice Sri Shyamal Kumar Sen will preside over the function. Shri Aroop Biswas, Minister-in-Charge, Housing and Youth Affairs, has agreed to grace the function as Guest-in-Chief and Shri Ranjit Mullick, veteran actor and present Chairperson of Kolkata Chalachitra Utsav Committee will be Guest-of-Honour.

The Satyajit Ray Memorial Life Time Achievement Award will be bestowed this year on veteran actress and MP Sandhya Roy.  Sandhya Roy is perhaps one of the most under-rated actresses in Bengali cinema. She is almost without work today, living a life of forced retirement.. She won the Best Actress Award for Nimantran (1972) and Sansar Seemante (1976). She also won the Best Supporting Actress Award for Teen Adhyay (1969) all from BFJA. In 2012, The West Bengal Government invested her with the Special Chalachitra Award. One of her most memorable performances was as Chhuti in Satyajit Ray’s Asani Sanket.

The festival will hold three screenings everyday with films from Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Denmark, France, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Korea, Netherlands, Peru, Slovenia, Turkey and Vietnam.

The Bangladeshi film Mritika Maya which will be screened at the IFNC has bagged awards in 17 categories at the National Awards in Bangladesh in 2013. The film is directed by Gazi Rakayet and jointly produced by Rakayet and Faridur Reza Sagor. The awards were bestowed for best director, best music director, best supporting actor, best actor in a negative role, best story, and best art. It also stood second at the SAARC Film Festival held in Sri Lanka in May where it won a silver crest.
