Youth killed in CRPF firing in Kashmir

| | Apr 18, 2015, at 04:48 pm
Srinagar, Apr 18 (IBNS) A youth was killed when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel opened fire on protesters in Srinagar's Narbal area in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, a day after violent clashes between protesters and police and the fresh turmoil over the arrest of separatist leader Masarat Alam.

Reports said that early Saturday morning, severe clashes took place between some youth and police in the area. The youth were protesting
against the Tral killing and arrest of several separatist leaders by the state government.

Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani  has called for a complete shutdown in Kashmir. Geelani is already under house arrest.

Reports said that as the youth resorted to stone pelting, CRPF men opened fire, resulting in the death of a youth.

Meanwhile, Masarat Alam was on Friday night remanded in seven-day police custody by a Budgam court for anti-national activity.

The 45-year-old hardliner was arrested from his home in Habbakadal area of the city early this morning and slapped with charges of leading
seditious activities and waging a war against the nation.
