Yogi Adityanath meets PM Modi in Delhi

| @indiablooms | Dec 02, 2017, at 05:51 pm

New Delhi, Dec 2 (IBNS): A day after the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) won a majority in the civic polls in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national capital on Saturday.

Giving a boost to the BJP ahead of the Gujarat polls, the ruling party clinched 14 mayoral seats in the Uttar Pradesh civic polls on Friday.

The mayoral candidates of the BJP won seats in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Agra, Firozabad, Ayodhya, Mathura, Lucknow, Kanpur, Saharanpur Jhansi and Bareilly, and Moradabad.

The civic polls in the state were held in three phases.

This was a major test for UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government.

The civic poll was seen as a  test for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who assumed the portfolio in March this year, and the election was his first biggest assignment as the CM.

While Adityanath held a large number of rallies, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati were missed during the campaigns of their respective parties.

In 2012, the BJP had bagged 10 out of the 12 mayoral seats in the state.

In 2017 state poll, the BJP had crushed Akhilesh's dream to become the CM for the second time by winning 325 out of 403 seats.
